PTSO Meeting, February 11, 2010 . . .
We had a very nice General Meeting, just wanted to let everyone know what was missed.
- We highlighted where we are with the Taste to date, things are shaping up nicely. Hopefully you are aware of the new things being offered this year, with that, I think that is why we have some buzz going and the interest in table reservations are going so well. We also recognized Cathy Balbach for all of her hard work and commitment to the event.
- We had a nice little presentation and show of appreciation for “2” of the guys (Joe Gandia and Fred Fox) that have so generously gave of their own personal time to help prepare chili for the Chili Suppers that the PTSO sponsors each year. These guys have been helping for 10+ years, and to top that, the last two without even having a child in school at St. Gabriel. Now that is stewardship at its best. They were appropriately presented a packet of chili-o mix and can of chili as a joke, and of course a certificate of appreciation signed by Pam. They were appreciative of the recognition, and then thinking that was all, we then told them they had been punked, Pam then presented them with a Gift Card, to yes, none other than Chili’s.
- Pam and Dennis Comella both spoke about the upcoming Parent, Teacher, Student conferences. The approach was on the perspective from each in attendance (Parent, Student & Teacher), with all coming in with thoughts in mind on what is going well, what can be done to address areas to work on. The point is that all should be aware coming in about the actual grades of the child, as it is so easily and readily available through Powerschool, and to focus on things that are going well, and looking and talking about things that may be affecting a child’s grade, such as behavior changes. Prayer was included in how important it is daily, including having the child write a prayer about the conference, and having them read it the day of. They both also focused on the conference being positive, that it was a teachable moment, not meant to be negative to put the child or parent on the defensive. Then they closed that it should end with goals being set. It was a very nice talk by both Pam & Dennis.

Safety. . . .
We have added gates to our property in the back to better protect our children at recess and other times when they are outside. We will soon be placing signs on these gates and reflective tape. They should be operational very soon. A special thank you goes to the PTSO for paying for the purchase and installation of the gates.
