2008-2009 Important Yearly Reminders

Club Dismissal:  Dismissal of any after school activities will take place in the back parking area where afternoon dismissal takes place.  Parents are to remain in that area and wait for the children to be brought out to them.  Parents are not to come to the school office to pick up students.

Morning and Afternoon Dismissal Procedures:  Thank you for following proper carpool procedures.  Everyone has been doing an awesome job following the rules.  Keep up the good work!  We appreciate it!

HOMEWORK & GRADES As stated in the handbook, grades are posted online and updated on the 15th and 30th of each month.  They are available by using a password through Powerschool.  Please be sure to check and keep updated on your child’s grades and progress.

Absentees - Please remember to call the absentee line by 8:30 AM if a student is unable to come to school or will be arriving later than 8:30.  The school office number is 239-5535.  Please refer to page 9 in the Student Handbook for detailed information.

Tutoring is available for your children.  For more information contact the school office to obtain a copy of the tutor list or write or call our Resource Coordinator, Mrs. Bev Forst, at bforst@stgabriel.net or 239-5535.

Dismissal calls:  We understand that emergencies sometimes arise; however, we are asking that calls for changes in dismissal be kept to a minimum and made by 1:30 PM.  The afternoon proves to be a very busy and hectic time. We greatly appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

Children's Choir - Sign-ups

The Enrichment Program
at St. Gabriel School has been developed to assist the school in meeting goals to differentiate curriculum, instruction and/or assessments to meet student needs, to deepen thinking processes about curriculum, and to offer and/or facilitate the offering of interest-based activities.

Pull-Tab Competition

This year St. Gabriel will join St. Patrick, St. Agnes, Ascension and Nativity School in the Knights of Columbus sponsored pull-tab (aluminum tabs from cans) competition.  All proceeds will benefit the children of Indian Summer Camp.  The Knights will present the coveted pull-tab trophy at the end of the school year to the school that collects the most tabs per student.

ISC is a camp for children with cancer.  The camp offers children ages 6-17 the chance to get away and have a good time.  The children have the  opportunity to meet others who understand what they are going through so they can realize that they are not alone.  The camp offers activities not easily provided at home or in medical institutions.

All fundraising for the camp is either donated or collected through fund raisers.  There are no paid staff members.  All counselors, physicians, and nurses volunteer their time for the week.  ISC uses aluminum pull tabs as a fund raising mechanism.

For more facts about ISC please visit www.iscamp.org or contact the Knights of Columbus representative John McCarthy at 244-4949.

Walk for Life – I have not heard the final numbers yet but I want to thank all the parents and students who participated in the Walk for Life.  Our coaches did a marvelous job of recruiting students and providing the modeling needed for our youth.  Thanks to all who participated.

Pull tabs – Keep sending in those pull tabs!!  We will be collecting pull tabs all year in order to send a child with cancer to summer camp.  We do compete in a friendly way with area schools. Please collect these tops and send them in.  One of our parishioners, Pat Ohlman, brought in 10 lbs.  Let’s see if you can top her!!

High School Recruitments – Our area high schools will be visiting our 7th and 8th graders on October 30th.   It is recommended by the archdiocese and the high schools that shadowing take place only on days when our school is not in session.
