books  Library News:

Remember the next Scholastic Book Fair is during our conferences in March. The profits from the book fairs help us purchase new hardback books for our library. We will be updating our foreign country books and our state books this year and next year. Thanks to all who have supported our book fairs in the past.

General Information
  • We had a spectacular book fair in October! Thank you to everyone who came in and supported the fair. We had a cash profit of $1644.63, which we will use to purchase hardback books for the library. We also received $405.00 in books from the fair. Students may still sign up for the Outstanding Catholic Reader program. The reading lists are on Mrs. Herbert’s web site.
  • If you are cleaning out you may have some DVDs that your children have out grown or are tired of watching. The library would like donations of any gently used DVDs that are rated G or PG for the library collection. Thanks.
  • Parents please be careful about letting your children carry bottles with liquids in them in backpacks. Each year many library books are ruined due to liquids leaking out of bottles into backpacks. Also please remind your children not to eat or drink while looking at library books at home. The average cost of replacing a library book is $14.95 and if the book is returned damaged you are expected to pay for it. Thank you!
  • The St. Gabriel library sponsors the Outstanding Catholic Reader Program each year. This is an optional program for grades K through 8, which promotes the reading of quality literature containing values and religious themes. Students have the school year to read 8-12 books from the reading lists provided. Signed reading list sheets must be turned in by April 15th. Students receive a certificate at the end of the school year congratulating them on completing the program. Visit Mrs. Herbert’s staff web page to read more about the program and to print out a reading list. If you wish to participate, please email Mrs. Herbert and let her know, so she can put the student’s name on the participation list. Students may also sign up at the fall book fair and receive a reading then.
