Smithsonian Institute
Introduction
James Smithson was an
important scientist. He had an institute built, in the United
States, after him. He was born in France and died in Italy. The
castle wasn't supposed to ba a castle and featured in the museums are
his works that he conducted as a scientist.
Interesting Facts
- The Smithsonian Castle was actually intended to be a College but never was.
- James Smithson kept accounts and data he found while conductiong expirements.
- James Smithson was a chemist and minerologist.
- James made a will before he died and entailed his estates to his nephew.
- It
said if his nephew died without an heir the money would go "to the
United States of America, to found at Washington, under the name of the
Smithsonian Institution, an establishment for the increase and
diffusion of knowledge ...."
- The Smithsonian Institute burned in 1865.
- It burned many of the manuscripts originally acquired.
- There are 19 different museums and gallaries that are all a part of the Smithsonian and a zoo.
