    The Jefferson Memorial is for one of the nations greatest people who changed our lifes as we knew them. He wrote the Declaration of Independence. He was a very strong believer in independance , equal rights, and freedom. He was one of America's best politicians but aside from that he was a architect , writer, musician , scientist, and inventor.


Interesting Facts and History

    Many people believed he deserved a memorial to call his own yet this was not in his lifetime. Constructors started to build the memorial in 1939. This was during World War II so metal was being devided the builders used plastor.After the war the statue was replaced by a bronze, 19 feet tall, statue designed by Rudulph Evans. The statue weighs five tons. The cherry trees surrounding it were a gift from Tokyo to the city of Washington in 1912. It is open everyday from 8:00 A.M to 11:45 P.M except Christmas Day.
