Introduction
The Smithsonian's National Zoo was founded by the Act of Congress on March 2, 1889. It is home to many different types of plants and animals and also researhes biology and reproductive science. This 163 acre park is located in Washington D.C. There is more than two million tourist each year that come to learn about the wide variety of animals.

About one forth of the animals housed at the National Zoo that are endangered species.

The zoo has many different species of animals, it also has an abundant amount of plant species. Such as 36 species of bamboo, over 100 species of trees and 800 different species of schrubs and herbaceous plants.

The Scientists at the Smithsonian Institution of Marine Biology, a branch of the National Zoo, are creating a frozen bank for the coral reefs in the Hawaiian Seas.

One of the Zoo's main concerns is to provide leadership in animal care, science and education.

The Smithsonian Nation Zoo was one of the first zoos to enable a scientic research program.

The Zoo holds classes for educating future scientists people come formover 80 countries to take these courses.
