Introduction
Pierre L'Enfant was a French engineer. He was born on August 9, 1754 .  He was strongly influenced by the buildings in Paris. The design is set on the Potomac river in Washington D.C. The layout of the Lincoln memorial and the capital building are a mile and a half apart and all the rest of the bulidings are between there. Pierre died on June 14,1825.

Interesting Facts and Information

    Pierre L'Enfant was born on August 9,1754 in France. As a kid he was always interested in building and construction. He was an engineer in France before he came over to America to fight in the Revolutionary war. George Washington found out that he was once an engineer and was interested in building. George and Pierre got very close and were good friends. This is why Pierre got the chance to plan the design of Washington D.C.
    In 1791 George Washington asked Pierre if he wanted to make the design for America's capital city. He was always inspired from french design of buildings but converted his ideas into American type buildings. He got to work immediatly in 1791 when George asked him. After his great design for D.C. many city planners were worried this would cost to much and would be to much work.
    George Washington found a site that was 100 square miles for the capital. The entire city was based on the idea that every citizen was equally important. Capital hill became the center of the city.
    Pierre died at the age of 64 and lived an amazing,exciting life. He got to meet one of our greatest leaders,George Washington. He planned the design of our nations capital and was in the Revolutionary war. The design of the National Mall is kind of shaped as a baseball diamond. Pierre had many ideas but he pictured a type of a grand avenue to be one mile long and 400 feet wide. The mall is about 2 miles long and covers 309 acres.
