Robert E. Lee
Introduction
Robert E. Lee was a general for the Confederate Army. He
graduted from West Point as one of the best in his class. After he
graduated he worked for the Corps of Engineers. He fought in many great
battles. He became a well known general after the Mexican War. He was a
great general and a great leader. He was born January 19, 1807.

Interesting Facts
Robert E. Lee was born on January 19, 1807. He went to West Point and
then graduated and became a second- liteuant of engineers. His father
was a calavary officer in the Revolutionary War. So he already had some
expectations to live up to. He started to live up to his expectations
in June of 1862. He became the general of the Confederate Army in Northern
Viriginia. One of his greatest victories was the Battle of
Chancelorsville. After this battle he found out that one of his best
commanders, Liteuant Stonewall Jackson had bee killed. Then he went to
attack Gettysburg where he was defeated. He then did not enter any
major battles until Ulysess S. Grant began to attack Petersburg. This
was Lee's last major battle and he was defeated at Appomattox
Courthouse.
Robert E. Lee's house is on top of a hill that looks over Arlington
Cemetary. Mary Anne Randolph Custis lived in the house while Robert E.
Lee was off at war. While he was off at war the Union Army started to
bury their soldiers in her garden to embaress the family. The house is
decorated to what they thought it looked like when the Lee family was
living there.

- Abraham Lincoln asked him to command the Union Army in 1861 but he refused the offer because of his respect for Viriginia
- He commanded the army of Northern Viriginia during the Civil War
- His greatest battles are: Seven Days Battle, Second Battle of
Bull Run, Battle of Fredricksburg, and the Battle of Chancelorsville
- He surrendered at Appomattox Courthouse April 9, 1865
- When the war ended Lee became the President of Washington College
- Robert E. Lee died October 12, 1870
