Tomb of the Unknown Solider
Introduction
The
Tomb of the Unknown Soilder is a very important mermoiral sight. It is
located in the Arlington. This tomb is guarded everyday for 24 hours.
As it says on the front,"Here Rest in Honored Glory, An American Soilder Known
But To God." In the tomb is remains of unknown soliders who fought in
World War I and II and Korea.

The tomb started to be built in
the year 1921.President Dwight Eisenhower signed the bill to build the
tomb. The building of the tomb was complete on August 27,1931. Its is
an honor to be a guard for the Tomb of the Unknown
Soilder. Soilders take it very seriously. A guard must take 21 steps
back and forth across the tomb. All gurads wait to turn to walk back
across the tomb for 21 seconds. Their gloves are always damp to have a
better grip on the rifle and gurads are changed every hour
through out the day. To become a guard there are strict requirments.
guards have to be around 5'10" or 6'2". when they become a guard
they can not
drink alcohol, swear in public, talk or watch TV during their first 6
months on duty, and they must study all the 175 people buried in the
cemetery. The tomb has been guarded every second, minute, and
hour of each day since 1937.

- after two years of a gurad on duty the recive a wreath pin
- it takes 4 hours to shine their shoes and 5 hours for their uniform to be finished
- the guards carry the riffle on the same shoulder away from the tomb
- gurads shoes have a steel ring on the heel so that when they walk it will make a clicking sound
