Two years after Lincoln's assassination the Congress
decided to construct a Memorial dedicating to him. President Taft
signed a bill to give 2 million dollars to the building supplies. The Lincoln Memorial began

William Taft, and the Chief justice, Robert Todd Lincoln (who is
also Abraham Lincoln's only surviving child) lead the dedication
ceremony. It was dedicated 50 years after Lincoln's death. It took seven years to complete the whole building. The
Memorial is 99 ft. tall and the height of Lincoln's statue is 19 ft.

of marble from Colorado and Lincoln's statue is made out of marble from

designed by Daniel Chester French. Over Lincoln's statue is a quote:
"IN THIS TEMPLE

FOR WHOM HE SAVED THE UNION
THE MEMORY OF ABRAHAM LINCOLN
IS ENSHRINED FOREVER."
