Robert E. Lee
Introduction
Robert
E. Lee was born on January 19, 1807 at "Stratford" In Westmore land
County. He was promoted to colonel during the Mexican war. He
kept
being promoted to colonel, then superintendent, then Lieutenant, and
the
Commander-in-Chief. Finally, he was promoted to General in the
Confederate States. Took part in the Battle of Gettysburg and is best
known as the American Civil War Confederate General. He was also a
father to three boys and four girls.
He died October 12, 1970, a little more than five years after the Civil
War ended.

1. Had seven kids when he married
Ann Randolph Custis on June 30, 1831 and all three of their sons served
in the Confederate army.
2. His last words before he died
were, "Strike the tent!"
3. He lost 30,000 men in the Battle of Gettysburg.
4. The third Monday in January is
still celebrated as Robert E. Lee's birthday in most southern states.
5. The cause of Robert E. Lee's death was heart disease.
6. He was buried in Lexington, Virginia.
