Introduction
            The battle of Gettysburg was one of the costliest battles of the Civil War basedon the number of injuries and casualties. Day one of the battle began on July 1, 1863. The number of soldiers injured,killed, or missing was 51,112 in the three day battle.

Intersting facts

            The Battle of Gettysburg began somewhat accidentally.  When Confederate General Heth went to occupy Gettysburg, Pennsylvania It was the costliest battle in the civil war based on deaths and injuries. They met two union brigades in the town.

Union General Buford held the advancing Confederates for over an hour waiting on the reinforcements. Confederates tried to flank the Union soldiers and make them retreat from the high ground. Union troops eventually retreated to the Seminary.
