Introduction
The
Vietnam Memorial is a national memorial in Washington D.C. It honors
the service members and the people who fought in the Vietnam War. On
the wall it lists all the names of the people that died and those who
are missing in action. The memorial consists of three diffrent parts,
the three soliders statue, the service women, and the wall its self.
The memorial was inspired by Jan Scruggs, an infantryman who served in
the Vietnam War. The memorial was designed by Maya Lin and was
completed in 1982.

Intersting facts
- on March 16, 1982 the wall began being built
- the Vietnam Memorial was accepted by the President of the United States on November 10, 1984
- the cost for the wall was a little over eight million dollars and all the money was donated
- the criteria for the design of the memorial-
- be reflective and contemplative in character
- harmonize with its surroundings
- contain the names of those who had died in the conflict or who were still missing
- make no political statment of the war
- the winning prizes
for the design of the wall was $50,000, and they also recived a
commission to assist the Architect of Record in developoing the
design for construction
- there are 58,267 names on the wall
