Introduction




    The White House has been home to presidents and their families for more than 200 years. The White House has stood as a symbol of presidency for years.
 The White House began construction in 1792 with the design of James Hoban. The White House has been through fires and a lots of reconstruction.
 The White House was first opened to the public by President Thomas Jefferson in  1805. The White House still allows
 the public to visit but security is very high.

Interesting Fact
                Two hundred years ago the first President of the United States decided he wanted to build
a new house. George Washington bought a piece of land and decided to put a contest out for the design
of the house. A committee picked a man by the name of James Hoban to design the house.  
On October 13,1792 the construction begun. George Washington never the saw the finish of the house
he died before it was completed.
                    The third president, Thomas Jefferson moved into the house in 1801 while the outside
 was being completed. Thomas Jefferson began decorating the house by buying wallpaper and furniture
from France. The house was then called the President House it was later named the White House.
    In the war of 1812 the White House was set on fire by the British troops, when the war
was over the white house was rebuilt and painted white. The White House also suffered
another fire in 1929 in the west wing of the building.
                The White House has been remodeled dozen of times and now holds 132 rooms. The White
House is six stories and the second and third floor is where the family lives during the presidency
When the new president arrives he can change it around and make it more the style that
they would want. The White House includes a swimming pool,movie theater, jogging
track, tennis court, billard room, and a bowling ally.
