Biography:

Mrs. Niamh Lutes wins the "farthest from home" award on the entire staff having crossed the Atlantic from Durrow, Co. Laois, Ireland, just to teach at St. Gabriel.  She was raised and educated in various schools throughout Ireland.  Mrs. Lalor works with the choir after school on Tuesdays,.

Mrs.Lutes is married to Jeremy Lutes and they have a daughter Orlaith.

Mrs. Lutes is  a member of the Cathedral of the Assumption parish.  She enjoys singing with the Cathedral choir, walking, reading, listening to music, and e-mailing and talking on the phone to her distant Irish friends and family.

Opera Singer

January 2012 Objectives

Kindergarten will learn seasonal liturgical music with a focus on music for Catholic School’s week.

Students will be introduced to music written form in relation to rhythm.

1st Grade will continue to work on written music form, introducing pitch movement to the rhythm patterns. Students will work on music for Catholic School’s Week.

2nd Grade will work on music for their upcoming Reconciliation Service and music for Catholic School’s week.

3rd Grade will work on rhythm patterns for the drum and xylophone to accompany songs.

4th grade will be introduced to the xylophone and learn to play simple melodies. They will continue to play their recorder.

5th grade will begin work on Amazing Grace for the recorder. Students will be introduced each week to a rhythm for Zydeco

6th Grade continue to work on Baroque Music 1600 1750, and American folk music.

7th grade are working on preparing music for the Catholic Schools week Mass, Presentation of the Lord and the Feast of St Blaze

8th Grade are beginning Les Miserable, they will be told the story and songs and watch performances.

 

All classes will be preparing music for the Catholic School’s Week Mass.

Choir Notes

Choir practice is held on Tuesday afternoons from 2:45pm until 3:45pm in Church. Students are picked up in the parking lot outside the gym.

Choir is offered to students from grades 3 through 8.

The choir will be singing for the 2nd Grade Reconcilation Service on Sunday January 22, 2012 at 3:00pm. The choir is asked to arrive at 2:45pm. The service should last about 50 minutes.
