School Theme - "Creating a Respectful Community"

1/5/2009 - We will start time tests again on Thursday, January 8th.  The test will cover addition facts 0-8.  The week of January 21st we will test sums of 0-9.

Celebration of Day 100: We will celebrate Day 100 soon (providing we do not have any snow days).  Your child will need to bring 100 small items (pennies, stickers, paper clips, etc.) that can be counted by 2’s, 5’s, & 10’s.  Please do not send in any unwrapped candy.  The children will be handling these items and hands can be dirty.  The items will be returned at the end of that day.

Outside Attire - Reminder:  Unless it is raining or extremely cold, the students go outside for recess. Please make sure you send your child with a coat, gloves, and hat.

The Pull Tab Competition Continues:  We have already filled one 30 gallon garbage can!! Keep sending in those pull tabs!!!

POWERSCHOOL:  Just a reminder . . . .when you log on to Power School to check your child’s grades, please remember to do so as YOU and NOT as your child.  Power School lets me know when you log-on and check your child’s grades.  This way I know you are staying informed.  If you have misplaced your personal log-in information contact Mrs. Kremer at skremer@stgabriel.net .  She will be happy to forward that information to you.  Thanks for your cooperation and support in educating your child.

Christmas Party: We want to give Mrs. Becker and Mrs. Hooper  a great big Thank You for a great party.  The children really enjoyed it.  Also, thank you for all the donations and the parents who attended.

Winter Uniform started on Wednesday, October 1st.  See the Handbook for details.  http://www.stgabriel.net/school/pdf/StudentHandbook.pdf.

CHURCH BEHAVIOR:  Please discuss proper church behavior with your child.  We attend mass on Wednesdays.  The children are expected to sit and kneel up straight.  Their feet are not to be on the kneelers.  Please explain and help your child to stand, sit, kneel and make the correct responses in church.  Thank you for your support!

A first grader should be able to tie his/her shoes.  If your child can not tie their shoes, please practice at home!

BOOK BAG:  The Book Bag will be sent home each night this week.  Please be sure to sign the log sheets (both the sight words and book) and return on Friday.  This is a list of sight words and a book.  More detailed note included in the Monthly Newsletter.

Students/Parents are not to be in our classroom without a teacher or assistant present.

Many students do not eat their 2nd piece of pizza.  The lunch period of 20 minutes goes quickly. You might not want your child ordering/paying for the 2nd piece.  ALSO, we have noticed some getting the snacks/ice cream and eating that first, sometimes not even touching the rest of their lunch or barely eating.  It is hard for you to know what goes on exactly, just wanted to pass this information on so that you can discuss eating habits at lunch with your child.

Behavior Book -  We are using the Behavior Book now.  Please review the school/classroom rules with your child.  Thank you!
Please have your child practice using a whisper voice at home.

Lunch time -  11:40-12:00       Recess - 12:00-12:15
If you plan on coming and having lunch w/ your child, please write a note to let us know.  We need to give the cafeteria an accurate count of how many are eating for the day in advance.

REMINDER of Nut/peanut allergies:   Check snack list (birthday treats) for proper snacks.  We eat our snack about 9:15 - 9:30 most mornings.

Box Tops - Please trim coupons neatly and place in envelope with your child's name, 1-Wg(1st grade, Mrs. Wagner) and number of Box Tops.  This is a tremendous help to the parents who count the coupons for sending to the company. Also as a reminder, students must have 15 boxtops to get a uniform break, labels do not count toward this number.

I have put some links below for your review.  We use Starfall on our SmartBoard.  The Faith First link has chapter reviews that are fun for the children.

I attach a MONTHLY NEWSLETTER to my personal staff page every month.   The link is above, titled, "Monthly Newsletter."

PTSO & Uniform Break -  Each month our uniform break will be different for those attending the skating parties and collecting box tops. Be sure to read in the monthly newsletter concerning the dates and type of uniform break.

Reminder - Belts must be worn if shorts or pants have loops (boys & girls).
