Famous Invention Project
For this project, you will be assigned an
invention. It is your job to research your invention and prepare
a presentation about it. The presentation may be an interview
with your inventor (dress up and have a classmate interview you during
your presentation); a children’s book about your invention (be
sure to include illustrations); a song/poem written about your
invention – you will perform; or you may choose another way to
present your information (be sure to okay it with me first). You
may not just write a report and read it.
Attached is a list of some suggested questions for
you to answer. Your grade will be based on the number of
questions you choose to answer or facts you have. In order to get
a “C” on the project you must have seven facts about your
invention. To get a “B” you will need to have 8 facts
about your invention. In order to receive an “A” you
will need 10 facts about your invention. Since this will be final
product, it should also have no spelling, grammatical, punctuation, or
capitalization errors. Points will be deducted of incorrect
information or errors in spelling, etc. All students must turn in something written (i.e. interview questions/answers, script, lyrics, children’s book). This may be handwritten or typed.
You will have just over three weeks to complete the
assignment. Don’t wait until the last minute! I will
need to know what type of presentation you will be doing by Wed., Nov. 9.
You will also need to include a bibliography page with your completed
project. On this you will need to list any websites used to
gather information (actual web address, not just www.google.com) and
titles/authors of any books you may have used.
If you have questions, please make sure to ask them. Your project will be due on Tues., Nov. 29.
Late projects will have grades lowered one letter grade for each day it
is late (if you are absent that day, send it with a sibling or neighbor
or have a parent drop it at the school office). I plan to begin
presentations on Nov. 29 so be prepared to do so. Feel free to
bring props, samples, etc. on that date if you are using them in your
presentation. Make sure they are appropriate for school.
Some suggested questions to answer (you may pick others if you wish)
1. Who invented your invention?
2. Was the invention on purpose or accidental?
If accidental, what was the inventor actually trying to do?
3. Has the invention changed from its original design? How?
4. Why was the invention made?
5. Has the invention helped society?
6. How would you improve or change the invention?
7. Where and when was your inventor born?
8. Is your inventor famous for any other famous inventions?
9. Are there any museums, monuments, etc. dedicated to your inventor or his/her invention?
