Mrs. Kaye Olgin was born in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, but raised in Louisville where she attended Our Lady of Lourdes Grade School and Sacred Heart Academy, before going to college at the University of Kentucky. (She bleeds blue!) She received her Master's at U of L. Mrs. Olgin helped start the first Student Council at St. Gabriel and moderated it for 14 years. She served on the Archdiocesan Social Studies Curriculum Committee and serves regularly as a Eucharistic minister, lector and member of the stewardship committee, at her home parish, St. Gabriel. Mrs. Olgin was awarded the Supreme Court and Treasury Department's Junior High Teachers of the Constitution Award. Mrs. Olgin is happily married to Dennis Olgin. She has a daughter, Robin, and a step-son, Brett, . In addition she is the proud parent of Toto, her brave 12 pound terrier "shelter dog". If you want to put a smile on her face, just ask about her "brilliant and beautiful" granddaughters, Wren, now age 8 and Juniper, age 6. Cypress, the 1st grandson, now known as "the King" was 3 in September. Says Mrs. Olgin, "I can't imagine anything I'd rather have spent my life doing other than teaching. St. Gabriel and its faculty have truly been my family. |

Grade 7 History Syllabus I am enjoying teaching
seventh grade again. We will be using
the book Journey Across Time, which is world history. Covering the beginnings of civilization until
the present could be a bit “daunting”. I
will be working to make this fun as well as a good background learning
experience. I hope to focus on ideas and concepts, rather than names and
dates. I enjoy the map skills in this
book and I think they are very important to the understanding of history. Students will often have study sheets with
the important facts for quizzes and tests. They will also need a notebook containing
nothing but history. I often give open
notebook quizzes, allowing me to make sure students are keeping up with their
homework and notes. Students should have some
homework each night. Grades are
calculated in the following manner: Homework 10% Class Participation/Readiness 10% Quizzes 40% Tests/Projects 40% Some assessments will be
given according to Differentiated Instruction.
This is structured to give students choices of work, geared to
individual interests and ability. These
will be carefully explained in advanced with directions and due dates. Copies will be given to each student. This is not group work. All tests will be announced at least one week in
advance and all work for tests will be thoroughly reviewed. Quizzes may be announced, open notes or “pop”
quizzes. Most daily homework will be
done in notebooks according to specific notebook rules. These rules will be given and discussed in
class, and failure to follow them can result in a lower homework grade. Please
contact me if there are any problems. I
also think it is important if there is an issue or illness at home that could
affect your child’s performance or attitude. Grade

be in the history notebooks. Please feel free to have your student talk to me whenever there is a problem. If we cannot resolve the issue together, then let me hear from you. I think students are old enough to attempt to resolve their own issues first. I always try to be accessible and open to discussion. *****CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK Students will have a FULL uniform break on Friday.
