Confirmation

Confirmation is one of the seven Sacraments, the third Sacrament of Initiation in the Roman Catholic Church. (Baptism is the first and Eucharist is the second.)  Confirmation establishes the beginning—not the end or “graduation,”—of a life of full, and adult, participation and responsibility in the Church. Confirmation is the Sacrament in which we receive the fullness of the Holy Spirit that was given to us at Baptism. Confirmation is a freely chosen commitment to God and the Roman Catholic Church. Sealed with the gifts of the Holy Spirit in Confirmation, we more perfectly become the image of God. In saying “yes” to Confirmation, we are outwardly expressing our desire to live more aware of Christ and more committed to His mission of serving others. We bear witness to Him before the world and eagerly work for the building up of the body of Christ.

The St. Gabriel the Archangel Confirmation Preparation Program attempts to ready candidates to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation as part of their ongoing faith journey. The opportunities for service, fellowship, and faith building will allow candidates to connect with their parish, the community, use the gifts of the Spirit in witnessing their faith, and demonstrate their sincere desire to be confirmed.

The Confirmation process begins each January when candidates are in the second semester of the seventh grade and is completed in the fall as eighth graders. Confirmation preparations are facilitated through school religion classes and the Religious Education program. The Sacrament itself is usually administered in late November. Special arrangements for preparation and catechesis are decided on a case by case basis.
